Need help frothing milk…

I feel so stupid asking this but I had a Keurig machine that could froth milk but I upgraded to an actually espresso machine off Amazon for a killer price. It’s the Mueller Premium Espresso Machine Coffee Maker with Milk Frother, Coffee Grinder. It has a nozzle for hot water and milk frothing.

I tried to froth the milk and it didn’t work. The machines kept clicking. After a WHILE I figured out that was it heating and it takes a bit of time. Then I ended up needing to clean the nozzle because it was jammed up with milk. So I tried again and it screeches like a banshee and nothing really happened. The booklet that came with the machine said to only run it for 15 seconds but that can’t be it. So I read somewhere to barely put the tip of the nozzle in, angle the cup and run it for a few minutes.

The sound was absolutely awful. It just seemed to get louder and more high pitched. I couldn’t run it longer than maybe a minute lest my ears bleed. I don’t know if it’s user error (very possible, it’s taken me some time to figure things out) or a machine defect?

I will take all help, including recommendations for a stand alone milk frother 😅
