I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

How do you brew light roast with a Chemex?

Having trouble brewing light roasts with a Chemex. I've tried the James Hoffman method. Works with darker roasts. I've tried the Lance Hedrick Chemex, multi pour method. A little tricky but I did get it to work once. Part of me thinks this is a better process.

Coffee

Grinder

  • Fellow Ode v1
  • Finest setting

Process

  1. 30 grams coffee
  2. ratio: 1:17.2
  3. Lance Hedrick process
  4. 4.5 minute brew time
  5. Noticed a bit of bubbling as the water goes down

Results

  1. sour
  2. lacking flavor
  3. bed of coffee was a bit uneven
    1. more coffee to one side

Is there secret to brewing light roasts with the Chemex?

Note

  1. could try this in the Airopress with a long brew time
  2. I should have the fellow ode v2 burr set next week
