I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

Vanilla extract in cold vs hot drinks

Ive noticed that any time i try to use vanilla extract in a cold drink it tastes kinda nasty and its fairly ok when added to hot coffee. Its not bitter like people often mention but a sort of bad chemically kind of flavor. I DO sweeten anytime i use vanilla as well in both hot and cold applications. Whenever I use vanilla in something cold it often benefits from heat but even when making something like whipped coffee which uses some hot water at the start its still a little funny tasting.

Is it the cheapness of the extract or the alcohol? Would I have better flavor for cold drinks if i got vanilla bean paste instead? I feel like its possible the heat of the drink disguises some odd flavors in the extract too because its still kinda there just not as prominent. Thoughts?
