Mahlkonig/Baratza Vario Burning Smell

Hi all,

Recently purchased a second hand Vario. When grinding, regardless of beans being in the hopper or not, a burning smell emanates from the body of the machine (around where the buttons and levers are). It still grinds and runs at a consistent rate. Worth noting that the levers are slipping and I am waiting on shims.

Has anyone had experience of this burning smell? Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

Many thanks
