minimum dose size?

Grinder Reccomendations (revisited)

I had posted this last night, but it was deleted for not being substantial. I had also accidentally posted just the picture before that and thought I deleted the post, but it was still there and my substantial post is not. I'm thinking it was the other post with just the photo that was being referenced and the wrong one was accidentally deleted. I'm not sure how THIS post wouldn't be substantial, so let me try this again.

A few people apparently answered the question before the post was deleted, but I couldn't read the whole answers … just the first sentence or two under notifications.

A few years ago I bought a repro Kitchenaid A9 coffee grinder. I thought it was a cool, powerful, retro looking grinder, and I felt it worked pretty well.

Recently, I've started paying more attention to my coffee variables and I've noted that it doesn't grind terribly evenly I've now done an experiment and I think actually it's rather bad. This is the same grind, but I ran it through a sifter into two piles … the stuff that made it through the sifter, and the stuff that didn't.

First … anybody else out there have an A9? What is your experience? Any ideas what I could do about this?

Second, what's out there for a home grinder that gives an adjustable, reasonably even grind? Recommendations?
