Bunn-zilla lite?

I have read most of the threads regarding Bunn-zillas, but I have a few questions about the Bunn G1 in it's original form.

Aside from the ridiculous size, is there any reason I can't use the g1 unmodified for home? The G1 I picked up is in excellent shape and I would feel bad chopping it in half, but I also don't really have room for a bohemoth in my tiny kitchen.

When replacing the Burrs, are ssp the only options, or is there something comparable that doesn't require much modification? It seems I would need to align the ssps and that looks like a lot of work and out of my scope.
