minimum dose size?

I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

Brewing with a pressurized basked (Delonghi Dedica)

I usually enjoy making coffee with manual brewing techniques like the Clever Dripper or Aeropress. However, I also have a Delonghi Dedica at home which I got long before getting really into coffee. I use the Dedica to brew lungos and double espressos for flat white's (or something that's similar to it since the basket only holds up to 12gr). I already gave up on using the steamwand because it really sucks. I prefer frothing milk with a french prench. The texture is a lot better.

My Dedica uses pressurized baskets. I've tried modding my machine using regular (unpressurized) baskets, but unfortunately my grinder (Wilfa Svart) can't grind for espresso. I recently asked my coffeeshop to do an espresso grind for me and the machine chokes.

So basically I want to get the most of my machine with those pressurized baskets and a (somewhat) coarser mocca grind (finest setting) on my Wilfa grinder. But there is very little guidance online to brewing with pressurized baskets.

Here's what I was wondering:

  • Is tamping important with using pressurized baskets? I've done a few pulls withouth tamping, just levelling and I must say the results are pretty good/better compared to tamping.
  • Does grind size really matter that much? With pressurized baskets the pressure is not created by the grounds but by the basket. So I would suggest grind size is more forgiving. For example, I recently got a very (cheap) dark roasted coffee and ground it very coarsely. Like something you would use in a Aeropress or Clever Dripper. I put it in the pressurized basket and it resulted in a very soft, sweet tasting coffee to my surprise.
