Blending/aerating an americano before pouring over ice

I used to frequent a tiny roaster/cafe in Korea where the owner/sole barista would pull an espresso shot, pour into water (normal americano), and dump it all into a blender. He’d then blend it until it was frothy and “milky” looking then pour it over a cup of ice. It was delicious in both taste and texture compared to a normal americano. Extremely smooth and even milky-ish. I was wondering if this is a thing as I haven’t come across this anywhere else before.
