Kragen Lum talks about working for Activision

By Angela Garrity, Guest blogger

During the years spanning from 1999-2011, Activision put Kragen Lum to work as a video game producer.  In this podcast episode, the axe man jokes that he started out “in the basement” after a bug in a game riled his anger enough to hop online and enroll to test video games. No health insurance, a child and a trip to the hospital all led to him ultimately moving into a career with the gaming giant.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Guitar Hero and 007 Quantum of Solace were all just a few major titles that Kragen had a hand in launching.

“I mean, part of the beauty of that game was that it’s a rhythm game at the end of the day,” he said in his interview about Guitar Hero. “You don’t have to know how to play anything, you just have to know what buttons to hit in the right order. So consequently, drummers are awesome at Guitar Hero, actually.”

Kragen is a notable guitarist and has been part of names such as Heathen, Prototype, Psychosis and Exodus. His work in gaming and rock has led a new generation to discovering legends.

Learn more about everything he’s been been involved with in the gaming sector during Episode 132 of Fueled by Death Cast.

Angela Garrity is a guest blogger for Death Wish Coffee Co. Her work can be found in Vapun Magazine as well as on their website.
