Who is the Acaia Pearl S supposed to be for?

Hey everyone,

I've been in the market for a new scale and have been looking at the Acaia Pearl. But the Pearl S has me scratching my head trying to figure out who that model is intended for. For example if you're brewing both pour over and espresso, is the espresso mode really something that'd be worth the additional cost?

The only differences I see seem primarily software and I don't know if that's worth the extra $70? What's everyone's thoughts on it?

Differences:

  • Max capacity: Pearl 2000g vs Pearl S 3000g
    • Pearl : 2000g
    • Pearl S: 3000g
  • Display
    • Pearl: 8- digit LED
    • Pearl S: Dot matrix LED
  • Sound
    • Pearl: Beep
    • Pearl S: Beep/Melody/Voice
  • Modes
    • Pearl:
      • Weighing Only Mode
      • Dual Display Mode
      • Pour-Over Auto-Start Timer Mode
      • Portafilter Mode
      • Beverage Mode
    • Pearl S: (has everything the Pearl has plus the following)
      • Espresso Mode
      • Flowrate Mode
      • Brewguide Mode
      • Countdown Mode
