Bonavita electric kettle crapping out like it’s not connecting to the base – fixable?

Asking here because this is the sub that convinced me to buy it in the first place.

I bought the Bonavita electric kettle about 2 years ago and we usually use it on average two or three times a day, so it's past its warranty but I can't imagine it's past its life expectancy.

It's the kind with variable temperature and while it turns on, usually the screen doesn't display the temperature like it's supposed to, just a bunch of zeros Pacific can't tell that the kettle is on. Sometimes it works but after a minute of heating, it goes back to zeros and stops heating.

So basically it seems like it's just having trouble reading that it's connected to the base. It's especially annoying because we paid about 50 bucks 2 years ago and now it's almost triple that price so I'd rather fix it then buy a whole new thing.
