Would you choose a fresh roast but preground over whole beans roasted 3 months ago?

I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

Would you choose a fresh roast but preground over whole beans roasted 3 months ago?

I’m in northern Norway, and I usually get my coffee sent from a great roaster (stoked coffee in Piteå.

However my coffee is currently stuck in transit and so I made my way to the local supermarket, which actually has some pretty good coffee.

I found myself with a dilemma, and wanted your input.

There were whole Ethiopian Yirgachefe beans that had been roasted in September. There was also the same coffee but pre ground, which was roasted only a couple of weeks ago.

I chose the whole beans, but what would you have done?
