Should coffee ever taste like buttered popcorn?

I’ve noticed many times, but not every time, my coffee tastes like buttered popcorn. Especially if it was made from a drip coffee maker. I’ve read it could be Diacetyl, a byproduct of coffee that is often described as tasting like artificial butter or buttered popcorn. Is it just me and my weird taste buds? Is it just artificially flavored coffee creamers (which I usually avoid if there’s an alternative)? Or is it normal?
