minimum dose size?

I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

Seeking to upgrade from Breville Bambino

I’m looking to upgrade from my Breville Bambino after getting great use from it daily for ~2 years. I don’t have a firm budget but am hoping to spend <$2k.

Personal considerations:

  • Rapid heating is a key feature
    • I make 1-3 cups a day but wake up at different times and make ad-hoc cups over the day
  • Almost exclusively make flat whites
  • Don’t intend to experiment heavily
    • I prefer to find beans I enjoy, dial in upfront, and then use the same bag for weeks (and sometimes just order more of the same beans for simplicity)
  • Grinder: Eureka Mignon Notte

My takeaway thus far is that the Ascaso Steel Duo ($1.6k) is the best option with the Decent DE1PRO ($3.5k) as a stretch upgrade (seems less useful for me given less interest in tinkering). Both are driven by the use of Thermoblock systems, seemingly resulting in <10 min drinks while maintaining great temperature control.

Please reach out if you have any other suggestions or input! The core upgrades seem to be an 18g VST ridgeless basket + bottomless portafilter, and again I welcome any suggestions.

Note: Cross-posting to r/espresso as I found both communities incredibly helpful during my past few years lurking.
