Is the fellow ode V1 really that bad with grind fine settings?

My wife told me she's gifting me with the onyx advent calendar and a Fellow Ode v1 + kettle bundle. I know that was a point of contention for some reviewers, but we just care that were getting a good experience without pulling our hairs out trying to optimize. My current setup is a Moccamaster with an old Baratza Solis Maestro. I don't want to really stress about upgrading burrs, as long as I get a handle on the technique with practice. I just want to make sure I'm getting good value without thinking too much. Also, any pour over brewer recommendations are appreciated, especially if it can be mounted on the moccamaster.
