I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

Australian university offers a doctorate program in heavy metal

By Angela Garrity, Guest blogger

Can you imagine attending a real School of Rock? Does the idea of getting a degree in metal studies appeals to you? The University of Newcastle in Australia is making those metal dreams a reality for people who wish to pursue a PhD scholarship to study to social geography of heavy metal, according to Kerrang.

The fully funded scholarship is offered to two domestic (Australian) students or one international student to study social geographies across a series of cultures that include: Homelessness, Veganism, Unschooling, or Heavy Metal. The living allowance is equivalent to approximately $19,232 US dollars.

The focus of the project is up to the student, and location and details are flexible. Anarchist Geography states that a student could study Death Metal in Finland, as opposed to Heavy Metal in Australia.

The prospective PhD will cover seven main points, with focus on understanding Australia’s metal association on both a native and worldwide sense.

Loaudwire reports that the application deadline is August 15, but they’ll be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and successful applicants will be notified in September 2019. Applicants must have a “minimum of a BA [Honors], and ideally a Master’s degree in Geography or a related field.”

Before high society gets a chance to snub its nose at this opportunity that some may be interested in pursuing, let’s remind them of this clip of truth from The Conversation.

“Human geography is the branch of geography that studies the organization of human cultures, social practices, economies and political systems across space (hence the geography). This includes the interconnections of human activities with the physical environment.

Some cultural forms that are now revered for their influence and eloquence began their lives under the same shadow of ridicule that heavy metal often receives. Shakespeare wrote for the masses and was considered rubbish in his day.”
