I served specialty coffee to my family this weekend…

minimum dose size?

I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

I served specialty coffee to my family this weekend…

I served my family a selection of an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and a Anaerobic processed Single Origin from Honduras. What a waste of great coffee and money. Nobody appreciated the flavors and they really disliked the funkiness of the anaerobic coffee.

I get that specialty coffee with higher acidities is an acquired taste. But next time I'll just have a bag of Lavazza coffee on hand for family. The week before that I had one of my friends taste regular dark roasted coffee next to a cup of the beforementioned Yirgacheffe and he did indeed spotted the difference immediately and told me the regular coffee tastes like ass. Maybe I should do that next time.

How do your family/relatives/friends react to specialty coffees?

Edit: Thanks for the tips on which other types of roasts I would better serve as a people pleaser and the advice on how to introduce people to specialty coffee (if they’re interested, that is). In no means did I want to sound snobby, I’m just overly enthusiastic about this recent hobby I got into 😅
