Kragen Lum is always pushing himself to do better

By Angela Garrity, Guest blogger

Continuing the journey in this podcast episode featuring Kragen Lum of Exodus, the guitarist admits he is not a fan of being idle.

In this clip from Fueled By Death Cast, Kragen Lum talks about what fuels him to stay so busy. Kragen plays guitar with multiple bands, including Exodus, Heathen, and Prototype, and also helps to manage some of them as well. Plus, Kragen runs his own imprint and produces guitar books for many of those bands — so why does he love to stay so busy?

“I like doing things and making things. I’m not one of those people who has to have someone tell me to do stuff,” he said in his Fueled by Death Cast interview.

His passion for metal continues to push him forward and drives him to keep going. Coffee admittedly helps keep him going, too, he jokes.

He confidently admits to having a slightly competitive side, and wishes more people had the same vision to push themselves to being better.

“It seems like this day and age people are content to do things that are just okay,” he said.

This complacency he sees in others doesn’t sit well with Lum, when he knows people can be great.

Playing with Exodus is a dream come true for Lum, who discovered the band as a teenager and quickly became a fan of their music. He is still awestruck when he sees the phone numbers pop up on his own device from fellow band members and realizes that his hard work earned him his place in the lineup.

Learn more about Lum’s drive and accomplishments of his dreams during Episode #132 of Fueled by Death Cast.
