I have a roaster I typically buy my beans from, but I also sometimes buy grocery store beans and I have a few brands that I enjoy even though they aren’t fresh (they’re just way cheaper than fresh roasted beans).

I’ve noticed that the fresh roasted beans are usually best after 2-4 weeks depending on toast, but they stay still really good for a couple months.

I freeze beans if I get a bigger bag and when I take beans out of the freezer, they taste almost as good as when I put them in the freezer, but they stale really quickly and even after a few days it loses a lot of flavor.

With store bought beans of course I can’t compare 1:1 since it’s different beans, but I’ve noticed they’re actually still really good on the first day. The only thing is that they also stale really fast similar to what happens with my frozen beans. Still coffee and good enough to drink, but it starts to taste kind of empty after just a few days.

Is this how fresh vs grocery store beans typically work nowadays?
