Zombie makeup on patient traumatizes ER trauma team

By Angela Garrity, Guest blogger

Let’s face it – scaring is fun. There is nothing like the thrill of visiting a favorite haunted house and subjecting yourself to terror this time of year or even simply jumping out and giving innocent bystanders a good case of the frights. Sometimes these scares spread like a virus during a zombie apocalypse.

A woman pictured wearing Zombie halloween makeup on her mouth and nose

Fox 2 Detroit recently reported on quite the fright unleashed at a local hospital when a professional back up dancer, Jai Fears, was rushed to the hospital during a panic attack.

The twist of irony that can only accompany this tale of woe – she was three hours into her sitting of getting professional zombie makeup done for a Halloween marketing campaign when the attack hit, and she had to be rushed off to the hospital — with full zombie makeup on her face.

This sent Beaumont Royal Oak hospital reeling with fear and put the facility on high alert. The level one trauma center had no idea she was wearing make-up. They said, “Let’s get her back to trauma now and she’s probably going into shock, she’s not making any sense.”

The numerous times of seeing similar scenes in various horror genres is now flashing through your mind. This is the stuff that nightmare fuel is made out of!

Fears disputes the claim that the hospital was unaware she came in wearing makeup.

“They have to know! So no, I did not say anything because I just assumed they could see that it was fake,” she said.

Note – Make sure you fully disclose anything artificial that is created, so not to cause a panic to local healthcare providers.

The hospital cannot comment on a patient’s status. They only made a statement about the incident that they did not find the stunt amusing. (But really, not her fault her panic attack happened while she was wearing zombie makeup).

“The emergency room is not a place for fun and games. They see many patients with severe medical issues where lives are at stake. Doctors need to be able to focus on those patients with true emergencies.”
