Why is my milk separating?

minimum dose size?

I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

Why is my milk separating?

This is something that has been baffling me for months. I usually bring a thermos of some regular old drip coffee to work, and a few months ago I started noticing that the milk was settling to the bottom. I don't think it's always done this because I've been doing this for years and I feel like I would have had to have noticed before.

I can't figure out why it would be doing this all of a sudden. The milk isn't bad, this happens whether I just bought it or not. It's happened with different milk brands, with 2%, 3%, 10%. It's happened with at least 3 or 4 different brands of beans. The only constant is the coffee maker (which is a cheap Mr. Coffee type drip coffee maker) and I did a very thorough deep clean yesterday and I'm sitting here right now with milk at the bottom of my cup.

When I stir it up, it looks and tastes totally normal, but the milk settles again pretty quickly – like under 2 minutes.

Can someone explain what is going on?
