minimum dose size?

I use the Hario switch to brew my coffee and am trying to reduce my caffeine consumption. Hence I would like to brew smaller cups of coffee. I am currently using 10g of coffee with 160g of water. (1:16 Ratio) I am wondering if there is a minimum amount of coffee...

New burrs in old Vario vs new grinder for pourover

I bought a Baratza vario back in 2008 or so when I was into espresso. Since then, I'm out of that game and brewing with a Kalita, V60 etc. I've noticed I get a fair bit of fines and inconsistency in the grind, and I suspect I might not be getting the best results here. I notice that a pourover from a good local coffee shop is quite a bit brighter than what I'm usually getting at home. I guess that could be water too though.

So I have a couple of options:

1) put some money into the Vario and get new (probably stainless) burrs. That seems to be $70ish, so not cheap. And, who knows how long the Vario electronics / motor will last as it's pretty old.

2) buy a new grinder, and stow the Vario away for some day when I get back into espresso, or just get rid of it. A good new grinder for pourover seems to be attainable for $200 or so, I gather.
