There is a lot of science to brewing coffee. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, we trigger – and try to control – an almost endless number of chemical reactions to achieve the perfect extraction. To do so, we have to tweak different variables – such as grind size, temperature, and coffee-to-water ratio – to get the […]

Need some advice, first time venturing into speciality coffee

I've just bought my first Aeropress and have made the decision to slowly venture into the coffee world in aims of brewing nicer coffee, and so far it has been an interesting journey I'm learning quite a lot. However interestingly, I have found that there is a lot of terminology used that isn't really explained properly anywhere and just sort of assumes that you know it. Admittedly, I mainly hear this terminology from watching James Hoffmans videos, but I wanted to ask if anyone knows any sources I can go or perhaps a youtuber than explains all the commonly used coffee terminology such as: bloom, drawdown, immersion, percolation, steep, agitation and so on so forth.

On another note: This has been asked quite a lot I'm aware, but what is your current go-to roaster or choice of beans? I'm overwhelmed for choice at the moment and not sure how to differentiate. Location is UK, London and I don't have a local roaster/cafe that I can try so it will be an online order.

Appreciate the help!
