Bypass coffee brewing: How can it improve extraction?

There is a lot of science to brewing coffee. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, we trigger – and try to control – an almost endless number of chemical reactions to achieve the perfect extraction. minimum dose size?

9 year old Baratza Encore: continue to fix or time to replace?

I’ve been fighting a slow grinding issue for a while now. It takes a long time (3-5 minutes) to grind enough coffee for a pot. The grind seems "fine" as well (the dial is set at 18). The beans seem to "bounce" up from the grinder cone a little.

Age: Grinder bought in 2015 and I grind about 1 pound a week

Steps already taken: Replaced plastic paddles and felt: no change Replace rubber hopper gasket (torn): no change Cleaned inside grinder and chute: no change

I contacted Baratza support in March 2023 and they sent out a free upper burr with the ring. It helped a little bit to make it tolerable.

However, it’s back to 5 minutes to grind enough for a full pot. I just did another cleaning to make sure the chute wasn’t blocked. Should I throw in the towel and just buy another Encore or Virtuoso+?

Thanks!
